Blog 1: You Are Right, But You Are So Wrong

In a world where voices are often drowned out by the noise of misunderstanding and prejudice, I find myself yearning to be seen, heard, and understood. As an African American woman, I have navigated a landscape that has often overlooked my story, my struggles, and my triumphs. This is my story, and I invite you to hear my humanity, see me as a sister, a loved one, a neighbor.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives were meant to be a beacon of hope, a promise of recognition and respect for all. Yet, somewhere along the way, the essence of DEI has been lost. It has been taken so far to the right that it often feels like the need for it has become irrelevant. But let me assure you, it is not.
I have never felt so seen as I did when DEI initiatives first emerged. For the first time, I felt that my story mattered, that my experiences were valid. But that feeling was fleeting. Quickly, DEI was taken over, diluted, and distorted, making the need for it seem trivial. As a woman, as an African American, I am not seen. I am not loud, ghetto, or uneducated, yet I lack so much. I am not seen.

I have done everything America said to do. I have raised my children, worked hard, and strived for success. But yet, we are still behind. I need my country to hear my story, see me, understand me, and love me the way I love it. What God said we are, what I am, is not reflected in the way I am treated.
